Community Guidelines

We’re excited about who’s here. Because readers have asked, and because building community knowledge—and community itself—is important to all of us, we’ve enabled the comments option.

You can suggest story ideas and other news tips in the comments if you’d like. We hope your comments will bring additional context, history, and other factors that help all of us become more informed, and stronger together. Please remember those values as you use this feature. Before you press send, ask yourself: Is my comment on topic? Am I being kind? Would I say the same thing if we were having this conversation face-to-face?

We pledge to be open-minded and tolerant, but we will also delete comments that would violate community rules in comparable places, such as Reddit or your favorite Facebook group. To be crystal clear that means no trolling, no racism/sexism/ableism, no NSFW/NSFL (not safe for work/not safe for life) posts, no doxing, no drug/sex/illegal activities, no sales posts, no advertising, no crowdfunding, no links to “x”.com.

Because we are volunteers gathering information that is important to our community, we ask that you take your battles elsewhere, so we can keep our time as moderators to minimum—and keep the comments feature going.
